NCT Preparation – Ardfert

Nobody wants to fail their NCT – and in most cases, a failure is avoidable. A thorough pre-NCT check gives you the chance to identify and deal with any issues before your test date, so you’re not facing retest fees or the hassle of a second appointment.

At Ardfert Motor Works, we carry out pre-NCT inspections for drivers from across Ardfert, Tralee, and County Kerry, and it’s one of the services we’re best known for locally.

What does a pre-NCT check cover?

Our pre-NCT inspection works through the same areas that the NCT examiner will assess, giving you a clear picture of where your car stands before the test. This typically includes:

• Lights — checking all bulbs, alignment, and operation
• Brakes — condition, performance, and balance
• Tyres — tread depth, condition, and pressure
• Steering and suspension — checking for wear, play, or noise
• Exhaust and emissions — condition and output levels
• Bodywork and underbody — rust, damage, and structural concerns
• Wipers and washers — condition and effectiveness
• Horn and mirrors — operation and positioning
• Seatbelts — condition and locking function

If we find anything that needs attention, we’ll explain it clearly and give you an honest assessment of whether it needs to be dealt with before your test.

Why get a pre-NCT check?

The NCT pass rate in Ireland means a significant number of vehicles fail on issues that could have been caught and sorted beforehand – often minor things like a blown bulb or a wiper blade. A pre-NCT inspection at Ardfert Motor Works is a straightforward investment that can save you the cost and inconvenience of a retest.

We use Autel diagnostic tools as part of our process, which allows us to pick up on fault codes and electrical issues that a visual check alone might not catch.
